There are two key categories in film, one is macro elements. Marcro elements are things like genre and narrative. Genre is a group in which you categorize different types of films, due to the characteristics in which the films withhold. Examples of different types are genre are as follows:
- Horror/Thriller
- RomCom/Chickfilck
- Romance
- Mystery/Detective
- Sci-fi
- Western
- Musical
- Comedy
- Action
A keyword in film language is narrative, narrative is the sequence of events and the way the are revealed to the audience.
There are also other important words are 'Linear' and 'non linear', linear means the sequence of events are shown in order that they take place, however non linear means the sequence of events are revealed out the expected over.
There are also micro elements to film, examples are listed below.
- mise-en-scene- setting, props, staging, costume, make up, etc.
- Performance- physical expression and vocal delivery.
- cinematography- photographic elements e.g camera position, colour, lighting, framing and special effects
- sound- diegectic sound, non diegetic sound
